State of Play Expo!

Hey everybody!

Dear Health and Safety persons, don't worry, they moved us to the right and out from in front of the fire exit shortly after this shot was taken.

Yesterday we were out at the State of Play Expo in Dublin showing off our production proof of Exquisite Beast and getting the public to check out, and even playtest, some of our upcoming projects!

We brought along our new drafting and bluffing card game Guns & Butter. It is our smallest game to date, clocking in at just 54 cards (including rules!) and still supports up to 6 players! Guns & Butter nearly got some table time, but unfortunately our friend Robin O'Keeffe had to run off before we could get a game together. (Robin was sort of our inspiration for this project; he has made a number of excellent small games and already Kickstarted 2 of them. Check them out here!)

The main game on display from us however, was Dare to Dream! Dare to Dream is an asymmetrical card game where 1 to 3 players are Dreamers just trying to make it peacefully through the night while one player is The Darkness, who sends Nightmares and Monsters after them in an attempt to wake them. Fortunately the Dreamers are protected by their loyal Guardians!

Some of our fearless Guardians featured on the right, including Zapp the Robot, Prunches the Pig, and Blockhead the One Made Out of Blocks.

We got in a lot of play testing over the course of the afternoon and Sean managed to snag some great candid shots of our volunteer players!

Teaching Dare to Dream apparently required me to use a hand-spider as a visual aid.

As the Dreamers share resources, there is often some intense debate about the best course of action!

There is also occasionally despair as The Darkness reveals its various plans and tricks...

... and then elation as the Dreamers realize they have me beat! (As an aside, we didn't stage this shot; this was seriously the most enthusiastic group of playtesters I have ever met!)

I'd like to thank everyone who stopped by our table over the course of the day; it was great talking to all of you! I would especially like to thank everyone who played Dare to Dream. We got lots of great feedback from you guys and that really is invaluable to the game-making process. It was also tons of fun!

Looking forward to future public events and especially State of Play 2018!
